Author Description Agnes Nieuwenhuizen was born in Iran of Hungarian parents. She emigrated to Australia in 1949 For over twenty years she was a secondary school teacher. Literature and talking about books have always been an important part of Agnes's family life and work.<br /><br />Since 1987 Agnes has worked full time in the area of young adult literature. She created, and holds, the position of Victorian Youth Literature Officer and provides a range of activities for young people and adults that promote authors, reading and writing in innovative and entertaining ways. Her writing includes reviews, interviews and a number of books. A review of <i>More Good Books for Teenagers</i> (Reed Books, 1995) in the <i>Australian Book Review</i> described Agnes as "Australia's foremost advocate of youth literature". Agnes was awarded the 1994 Dromkeen Medal for "services to Australian children's and young adult literature".
